The Cheltenham Gold Cup 2027 is already developing into one of the most fascinating races of the new National Hunt season, with defending champion Gaelic Warrior setting a demanding standard for a group of established Grade 1 performers and emerging staying chasers.
Willie Mullins’ star produced the defining performance of the 2026 Cheltenham Festival when defeating Jango Baie in the Gold Cup, and his subsequent victory at Punchestown strengthened his position at the top of the staying-chase division.
Unsurprisingly, bookmakers have installed Gaelic Warrior as a clear favourite for the 2027 renewal. Behind him, however, the market is considerably more open.
Jango Baie remains prominent despite suffering an injury setback, while Final Demand, Kitzbuhel, Lulamba and Fact To File are among the horses capable of developing into serious Gold Cup challengers during the 2026/27 campaign.
The Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup takes place on Friday 19 March 2027 at 4:00pm GMT. It will be staged on Cheltenham’s New Course over approximately three miles, two and a half furlongs, with 22 fences to negotiate.
Here is our early guide to the Cheltenham Gold Cup 2027 odds, potential runners and ante-post betting tips.
Cheltenham Gold Cup 2027 Odds
The ante-post market remains fluid, and prices can vary significantly between bookmakers.
At the time of this update, Gaelic Warrior is trading at approximately 2/1 to 9/4 with several major bookmakers. Jango Baie has generally been available around 7/1 to 15/2 with traditional bookmakers, although an exchange-based market tracker recently showed him drifting considerably following news of his injury.
Other prominent contenders include Final Demand, Fact To File, Lulamba and Kitzbuhel. Recent bookmaker markets have produced roughly the following range of prices:
| Horse | Indicative Ante-Post Odds |
| Gaelic Warrior | 2/1 – 9/4 |
| Jango Baie | 7/1 – 15/2* |
| Final Demand | 14/1 – 16/1 |
| Fact To File | 14/1 – 20/1 |
| Lulamba | 16/1 – 25/1 |
| Kitzbuhel | 16/1 – 25/1 |
| Kaid d’Authie | 20/1 – 33/1 |
| Inothewayurthinkin | 20/1 – 33/1 |
| The Jukebox Man | 25/1 |
| The Big Westerner | 33/1 |
| Grey Dawning | 40/1 – 50/1 |
| Romeo Coolio | 33/1 – 50/1 |
| Spillane’s Tower | 33/1 – 50/1 |
*Jango Baie’s market requires particular caution following his September injury setback. An exchange-market tracker subsequently showed him considerably bigger at around 14/1.
Odds are indicative only and can change at any time. Always check current prices and ante-post betting rules before placing a wager.
Are the Cheltenham Gold Cup 2027 Runners Confirmed?
No.
This is one of the most important points to understand when looking at the Cheltenham Gold Cup market this far in advance.
The horses currently listed by bookmakers are ante-post contenders, not the final confirmed Gold Cup runners. The eventual field will not be known until much closer to the Festival.
That creates both opportunity and additional risk for ante-post bettors. A horse can shorten dramatically if it wins a major trial, but it can also miss Cheltenham because of injury, poor form or a decision to target another race.
Unless a bookmaker is specifically offering non-runner-no-bet conditions, traditional ante-post bets can normally be losers if the selected horse does not take part.
That makes identifying a horse’s likely campaign and intended Festival target almost as important as assessing its ability.
Gaelic Warrior – The Horse They All Have to Beat
There is no mystery surrounding Gaelic Warrior’s position at the head of the betting.
He was outstanding in the 2026 Cheltenham Gold Cup, beating Jango Baie into second, with 2025 Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin finishing third. Racing Post’s official result records Gaelic Warrior as an 11/4 joint-favourite for that victory.
More significantly, it did not prove to be an isolated peak.
Gaelic Warrior subsequently defeated Fact To File by 26 lengths in the Grade 1 Punchestown Gold Cup in April. Racing Post recorded him with an official rating of 176 going into that contest and an RPR of 183 for the victory.
Those performances leave very little doubt about his raw ability.
His versatility is another major strength. Gaelic Warrior has possessed enough speed to win an Arkle over two miles at Cheltenham, yet has subsequently developed into an elite staying chaser.
His jumping, once considered a potential vulnerability, has also become significantly more reliable.
The question for bettors is therefore less about whether Gaelic Warrior is the best horse in the division and more about whether backing him at around 2/1 this far in advance represents value.
His connections are also expected to target the King George VI Chase at Kempton again. The Ricci camp identified the King George as an important objective following his 2025/26 campaign, so there are meaningful races to negotiate before Cheltenham.
Verdict on Gaelic Warrior
Most likely winner – but not necessarily the best ante-post value.
If Gaelic Warrior arrives at Cheltenham healthy and produces his 2026 Gold Cup or Punchestown form, every other runner may have to improve significantly to beat him.
At approximately 2/1, however, bettors are being asked to accept a short price more than five months before the race.
Jango Baie – Injury Changes the Betting Picture
Jango Baie’s 2025/26 campaign established him as a genuine top-class staying chaser.
He finished second to Gaelic Warrior in the Cheltenham Gold Cup before winning the Grade 1 Aintree Bowl the following month. Racing Post’s result shows Jango Baie winning at Aintree by 16 lengths, although the bare margin needs context because Impaire Et Passe fell at the second-last while still involved in the contest.
Ordinarily, that profile would make him an obvious alternative to the favourite.
Unfortunately, there is now a significant complication.
On 29 September 2026, Nicky Henderson revealed that Jango Baie had suffered an avulsion fracture in a hind leg. The trainer ruled him out for the remainder of 2026, although the horse was reported to be progressing with treatment.
That does not necessarily prevent him from competing at Cheltenham in March, but it removes valuable preparation time and introduces obvious uncertainty.
The Gold Cup is an unforgiving race to approach without an ideal campaign.
Verdict on Jango Baie
Wait rather than bet at current bookmaker prices.
His ability is unquestioned, but a single-figure ante-post price offers limited compensation for the uncertainty surrounding his preparation.
If he returns successfully in early 2027, the picture can be reassessed.
Kitzbuhel – The Most Interesting Value Contender?
For bettors searching beyond the obvious names, Kitzbuhel could be one of the most interesting horses in the market.
The Willie Mullins-trained chaser defeated stablemate Final Demand in an excellent renewal of the 2026 Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham.
Kitzbuhel made the running and showed considerable toughness to hold Final Demand by three-quarters of a length over three miles and one furlong. Racing Post recorded the pair with RPRs of 160 and 158 respectively.
That performance matters from a Gold Cup perspective for several reasons.
Firstly, Kitzbuhel has already demonstrated that he can jump and perform at Cheltenham.
Secondly, the Brown Advisory is a natural developmental race for future staying stars.
Thirdly, his attacking jumping style could become a major weapon if he continues improving in open company.
After his Festival victory, Willie Mullins indicated that the Gold Cup would have to enter calculations, while the King George at Kempton has also been mentioned as a potential target.
His price varies substantially between bookmakers, with anything around 20/1 or bigger looking considerably more interesting than shorter quotes.
Verdict on Kitzbuhel
Early value selection at 20/1 or bigger.
He still has to prove he belongs with Gaelic Warrior at championship level, but his age, Cheltenham form, stamina and scope for improvement create an appealing ante-post profile.
Final Demand – Another Mullins Horse With Major Potential
Final Demand finished immediately behind Kitzbuhel in the Brown Advisory and arguably possesses just as much long-term potential.
He was the better-fancied of the Mullins pair at Cheltenham, starting at 7/2 compared with Kitzbuhel’s 11/1, and he pushed his stablemate all the way to the line.
That makes prices around 14/1 to 16/1 understandable.
Unlike Gaelic Warrior, Final Demand has not yet proven himself against established championship chasers. That is precisely why he remains available at a much bigger price.
The 2026/27 season should tell us whether he can bridge that gap.
Strong performances in major staying chases would quickly reduce his Gold Cup odds.
Verdict on Final Demand
A credible progressive contender.
At around 16/1, Final Demand makes more appeal as an ante-post proposition than many exposed runners at similar prices.
Lulamba – The Potential Improver
Lulamba brings a different profile.
Nicky Henderson has indicated that the horse will be stepped up in distance, and the trainer believes he can improve substantially as his stamina is tested more seriously.
That view became particularly relevant when Jango Baie was ruled out of the King George. Henderson identified Lulamba as a potential replacement for Kempton’s Boxing Day feature, saying he could improve enormously over longer distances.
That makes the King George an important potential clue for Cheltenham.
If Lulamba proves he can stay three miles against experienced Grade 1 opposition, Gold Cup odds currently around 16/1 to 25/1 could disappear quickly.
The concern is equally clear: he is not yet a proven Gold Cup horse.
Backing him now means betting on development rather than established staying-chase form.
Verdict on Lulamba
High-upside contender, but target and stamina questions remain.
At 20/1-plus he is interesting; at substantially shorter prices, waiting for more evidence would be sensible.
Fact To File – Class Is Not the Problem
Few horses in the market possess more natural ability than Fact To File.
He defeated Gaelic Warrior in the 2026 Irish Gold Cup and already boasts an impressive Grade 1 record. However, connections ultimately opted against supplementing him for the 2026 Cheltenham Gold Cup, sending him down a different Festival route instead.
His subsequent Punchestown defeat is also difficult to ignore.
Gaelic Warrior beat him by 26 lengths over three miles and 213 yards in April.
That does not suddenly make Fact To File an ordinary horse. Far from it.
The bigger question is whether the Gold Cup trip and race are where connections believe he is most effective. He also appears prominently in ante-post betting for the shorter Ryanair Chase, illustrating the uncertainty surrounding his eventual Festival target.
Verdict on Fact To File
World-class ability, but insufficient target certainty for an early Gold Cup bet.
Inothewayurthinkin – Can the 2025 Winner Return to His Best?
It would be dangerous to completely dismiss a former winner.
Inothewayurthinkin captured the Gold Cup in 2025 before finishing third behind Gaelic Warrior and Jango Baie in 2026. The official Cheltenham roll of honour confirms his 2025 victory at 15/2.
However, his subsequent Punchestown performance was disappointing. He finished a distant fourth behind Gaelic Warrior in April.
At prices reaching 33/1 with some bookmakers, the argument is that his proven Gold Cup record is already being heavily discounted.
Whether that represents value depends on his early-season form.
Verdict on Inothewayurthinkin
Interesting only at a big price until signs of a revival emerge.
The Jukebox Man – Stamina Remains the Question
The Jukebox Man entered the 2026 Gold Cup with serious credentials following his King George success but could finish only eighth at Cheltenham.
He travelled prominently for a significant part of the race before weakening as the stamina demands intensified.
One disappointing Gold Cup does not make him impossible to fancy in 2027, but he now needs to demonstrate that the demanding three-mile-two-and-a-half-furlong Cheltenham test truly plays to his strengths.
At around 25/1, bookmakers have priced in a fair amount of that uncertainty.
Cheltenham Gold Cup 2027 Betting Tips
The key to ante-post betting is not simply predicting which horse is most likely to win. Price, target certainty and the risk of a horse failing to reach the race must all be considered.
Based on information available on 4 October 2026, our early Gold Cup betting position is:
Best horse: Gaelic Warrior – around 2/1 to 9/4
The defending champion deserves his position at the top of the market. His Cheltenham and Punchestown victories established him as the outstanding staying chaser of last season.
The problem is price rather than ability.
Backing a horse at approximately 2/1 five months before Cheltenham means accepting injury and preparation risk without a particularly large potential return.
Best ante-post value: Kitzbuhel – 20/1 or bigger
Kitzbuhel has the profile we want from a longer-priced Gold Cup prospect: youth, Grade 1-winning form, proven Cheltenham ability, staying potential and considerable scope for improvement.
If he develops into a genuine King George contender, 20/1-plus for Cheltenham could look generous.
Alternative value: Final Demand – around 16/1
Final Demand was narrowly beaten by Kitzbuhel at Cheltenham and could easily reverse that form during their second season over fences.
He is another horse whose price could contract sharply with a major Grade 1 victory.
Horse to watch rather than back: Jango Baie
At his best, Jango Baie belongs near the head of this market. The problem is his preparation following September’s hind-leg injury.
Until his return date becomes clearer, the risk is difficult to justify at relatively short bookmaker odds.
What Makes a Cheltenham Gold Cup Winner?
The Gold Cup asks questions that ordinary staying chases cannot replicate.
A horse needs stamina, jumping accuracy, tactical speed and the ability to keep finding under pressure after climbing Cheltenham’s famous hill.
Recent history also emphasises the importance of genuine Grade 1 quality.
The winners from 2023 to 2026 were Galopin Des Champs twice, Inothewayurthinkin and Gaelic Warrior.
Previous Cheltenham experience is another major positive because the track’s undulations and demanding finish can expose horses that look equally talented elsewhere.
That is why runners such as Gaelic Warrior and Kitzbuhel deserve particular attention: both have already demonstrated that Cheltenham itself is not an obstacle.
Major Races to Watch Before the 2027 Gold Cup
The market could look dramatically different by February.
The King George VI Chase at Kempton should provide an important mid-season test, particularly if Gaelic Warrior, Kitzbuhel or Lulamba take part.
The major Irish staying races will also shape Willie Mullins’ plans, especially given the number of horses from his stable currently appearing in Gold Cup betting.
By the time the Dublin Racing Festival is completed, bettors should have a much clearer understanding of the pecking order among Gaelic Warrior, Fact To File and Mullins’ emerging staying chasers.
The final pre-Cheltenham trials will then determine fitness, form and potentially the composition of the field.
Cheltenham Gold Cup 2027 Prediction
If the race were being run tomorrow, Gaelic Warrior would be the clear selection.
He possesses the strongest form, is the reigning champion and ended last season by comprehensively defeating one of his most talented potential rivals at Punchestown.
That does not mean 2/1 is automatically an attractive ante-post bet.
For those looking for a bigger-price selection with the potential to shorten significantly, Kitzbuhel at 20/1 or better is the standout early value option.
His victory over Final Demand in the Brown Advisory demonstrated both ability and toughness, while his front-running jumping style could become particularly effective as he matures.
Final Demand is close behind him on the shortlist.
Jango Baie would normally warrant serious consideration after his 2026 Gold Cup second, but the injury announced in late September makes patience the preferred approach.

- Best ante-post value: Kitzbuhel at 20/1+

Final Thoughts
The early Cheltenham Gold Cup 2027 betting market revolves around one horse: Gaelic Warrior.
The defending champion established himself as the leading staying chaser of 2026 and will be exceptionally difficult to dethrone if he returns to Cheltenham at the same level.
Yet ante-post betting is ultimately about finding a price that underestimates future potential.
Kitzbuhel and Final Demand fit that description better than most. Their thrilling Brown Advisory battle could prove to have been the beginning of two serious Gold Cup careers, while Lulamba is another name capable of moving rapidly up the market if a step up in distance produces the improvement Nicky Henderson expects.
Jango Baie’s injury adds another layer of uncertainty. His talent makes him impossible to dismiss from the broader Gold Cup conversation, but bettors should demand a sufficiently attractive price to compensate for the disruption to his season.
There will be plenty of movement between now and March.
For now, Gaelic Warrior remains the benchmark, while Kitzbuhel represents the most appealing early value at 20/1 or bigger.
