With the Colosseum as its backdrop, it should come as no surprise that Champions of Rome is a gladiator-themed slot. The reels reside in the confines of a stone temple that is topped by the Roman Aquila.
The low-value symbols on the reels include metal, bronze, silver and gold coins. The animals carved in stone make up the medium-value symbols, while the 3 gladiators represent the high-value symbols. Of these 3 gladiators, it is the red one that will payout the most, giving you 60x your stake if you manage to land 5 across a payline. Finally, the Roman Eagle represents the Wild symbol and will substitute for all the game’s standard symbols.
Champions of Rome has different features that further add to the excitement of the slot. In the base game, if you land 2 scatter symbols anywhere on the reels, this will trigger the Gladiator feature. Once triggered, 1 of 3 weapons are thrown at the reel set to generate 4 wild symbols. Each weapon comes with a different benefit.
For instance: the sword will give you a double stacked wild and 2 single wilds; the trident will produce 4 random wilds; and the mace will generate 2 double stacked wilds.
A Free Spins Bonus can also be triggered by the scatters. To activate this bonus, you’ll need to land at least 3 scatters anywhere on the reels. If you’re lucky enough to land 5, you’ll get 600x your stake!
Once the bonus is activated, you’ll have the option to choose between 2 free spins bonus modes: Training Free Spins mode and Deathmatch Free Spins mode. Once you’ve selected the mode you want, a random gladiator is selected to replace all the high-value symbols and their weapons will be used to award 4 wilds. If one of the wilds lands on a special beast symbol, you’ll be awarded an extra free spin!
If you select the Training Free Spins mode, you will be awarded 8 free spins. If you choose the Deathmatch Free Spins mode, this mode has 3 levels and you’ll need to hit a 450-coin win target on each level for maximum rewards. You can opt for 7, 6 or 5 free spins with a 2x, 3x or 4x multiplier respectively. That being said, the multiplier will only be added to your total winnings if you win a minimum of 450 coins.
