The 1st of two days of this week’s UEFA Champions’ league is over, and the results are in front of us. We can see the results now and see who has managed to grab a point or three, or who is the sad one leaving the field with their heads down.
The eight matches that were held had one away victory, two draws and three red cards. Let’s start at the 1st game played, and the only game with no goals in Kazakhstan between FC Astana and Atletico Madrid. The Spaniards struggled to place their game on the pitch therefore the result was expected. Astana played a very closed game letting only few chances to the guests and managing to finish the game scoreless.
Benfica had a good night in Portugal against Galatarasay managing to keep the three points in their stadium with the 2:1 with the goals from Jonas and Luisao. Podolski was the only scorer for Galatasaray while Gaitan will be unavailable for the next match because of a second red card in the 85th minute.
A stunning header by Wayne Rooney pushed Manchester United a bit forward against CSKA Moscow in a close match on the Old Trafford, and with the score of 1:0 the Red Devils secured the three points and are now on the 1st place on the table. In the same group PSV managed to score two stunning goals against Wolfsburg climbing to the 2nd place and pushing the Germans down to 3rd.
As expected Juventus had the most difficult task, and that was to win in Monchengladbach. Early goal for the Germans by Johnson made Lichsteiner equal the result in the 44th minute which happened to be the end result. Hernanes was not careful and got a direct red card in the 53rd minute when Juventus closed and the game became boring to watch.
Real was also struggling against PSG where start of the night was Nacho, who got in the game in the 33rd minute after replacing injured Marcelo, and scored just 2 minutes later in a nice solo action. Other than that the game was not so interesting to watch and finished with the score of 1:0, unlike in Ukraine where Shakhtar was not merciful for Malmo. Four different scorers for Shakhtar: Gladkyj, Srna, ALves da Silva and Teixeira draw the final 4:0. Arnason earned his second yellow in the 89th minute and left for an early bath.
The only match that the guests won was the match in Sevilla who hosted Manchester City. The result was 1:3 and the match was an interesting one to watch. The citizens had the advantage of 0:2 just after 11 minutes of play, where Sevilla returned in the 25th minute, but Bony with a great goal set the final 1:3 in the 36th minute. We all expected even more goals in the 2nd half but the teams closed and that was the final result for this match.
