I’m taking a look at the biggest and best striking names in the top tier of Spanish league and seeing who’ll finish the domestic season with the most goals this season.

The Portuguese legend has already claimed the Top La Liga Goalscorer award on two separate occasions as he netted 40 goals in 34 matches in the 2010/11 season and then outscored the rest of the league with 31 in 30 matches last season. He is the reigning champion and after just six matches of the current season the former Manchester United player is already five goals clear of the chasing pack with ten goals to his name. You can see why one of the most lethal strikers in La Liga history in one of the most attack minded sides is the big favourites to retain the Pichichi Trophy.

The Argentine maestro is the second favourite to take this title this year and deservedly so as the Barcelona striker and creator has already won this title on three separate occasions. He has lifted the Pichichi Trophy in the 09/10, 11/12 and 12/13 seasons where he bagged 130 goals in 104 matches and with Barcelona looking like returning to challenge for silverware this season he will certainly be given the opportunity to bag plenty of goals. However, the start of the season has seen very few goals from the diminutive attacker. He had scored no goals in his first four games, just one goal in the opening five matches, including missing a penalty, but things started the click then and he is on three in six matches. Can he continue in this form and catch the runaway Cristiano Ronaldo this season?

Bale began his career as a left back at Southampton before being converted into a left sided midfielder/attacker hybrid in his time at Tottenham Hotspur and following his success in this position he is the world record signing and plies his trade in the Spanish capital with Real Madrid. He bagged 15 goals for Real in his debut season last time around and he already has four in six to be the second highest Real Madrid striker this season so far. Is he the value play at 35.00 to finish with the most league goals?

The odds certainly suggest that it’s a two horse race between CR7 and Messi to claim the Pichichi Trophy this year and while Gareth Bale offers some excellent value I feel that the bookmakers are correct in backing Cristiano Ronaldo as he has already bolted out the gate and, as he’s shown in previous seasons, he’ll continue to bag goals continually throughout the season.
