Basketball is the most widely played sport all over the world which is being played by using a round orange ball which bounces on the ground. It was first found in Springfield, Massachusetts by the professor Dr. James Naismith in the year 1891. Now it is the second most popular sport in the world. Women’s basketball is also becoming famous but it does not have much attention when compared to the men’s basketball. It is been played in summer Olympic games since 1936.

The most important aim of this game is to score more points than the opponent. Baskets can be worth of 1, 2 or 3 points. You will get points by shooting the ball inside the basket. The team with the more points wins the game at the end. The court where the game which is played is rectangular court and at the end lines it contains the goal called hoop like a basket where its bottom have been cut.

In each game of the basketball some of the things are more required which includes basketball, basketball court, hoop and backboard, multiple players and a referee. It is played between two teams which consist of 5 members each. Maximum number of players in each game differs by league. In international games maximum seven players are allowed to play. When a player wants to substitute for another player on the court they can know the score bench. The referees can signal the players to come to play inside the court. Each team is allowed to have a coach and can have assistance.

In the game of basketball there are number of people who are not from either team who are there for assistance or help. They are called the officials. They are the most important people, without them game cannot run smoothly. There is either two or one umpire in the game whose job is to make the game more smoothly by enforcing rules of the game. He takes into considerations the spirit of the game. There is one referee, who is the head of the umpires. He has all the jobs of the umpire with couple of more responsibilities. There is one time keeper whose job is to keep the track of the time. The job of the score keeper is to keep track of the points score by either team with all those fouls made. The assistant score keeper keeps track of the player who tracks the player who scores the point. The job of the clock operator is to hold and reset the time when umpire says.

There are some terms which are used while playing which should be known by the players. Free throw is the basketball throw from the free-throw line which is played when anyone of them commits a foul. Field goal is made shot in normal play. Personal foul is made by any contact committed by the player of the other team. Technical foul is made by violating any of the rules.
