How to Play Blackjack

Blackjack is a relatively simple game to play and of all the games at casinos, blackjack has one of the best odds for the player. If you thoroughly understand the rules of blackjack, you should be quite good at the game, but like any game, the house always has the best odds. If you take a seat at the table, you’ll obviously have to make your bet before you see your cards. Once you make your bet, you, the other players, and the Banco will be dealt two cards. Your cards will be faced up and the dealer may have one faced down and one faced up.

The goal of the game is to get 21, or as close to it as you can without going over. The first thing you need to know is what all the cards in the game are worth. Cards 2-10 are all worth their face value and Jack, Queen, and King are all worth 10. Ace is worth 1 or 11, it is up to you and whichever value will assist you the most is the one you’ll use. If you’re dealt an Ace and a card worth 10, the ace will be valued as 11 and you’ll have a total of 21 which in this case is called blackjack.

In case the dealer has a card worth 10 or an Ace facing up, she or he will look at the card facing down to check if the dealer has a blackjack or not. In case the dealer does have a blackjack and you’ve a blackjack, it is a tie and is considered a push. If you do not have a blackjack, he loses and the hand is over. In case the dealer does not have blackjack and you do not have blackjack, you’ll get the option to hit. Whenever you hit, you’ll be given one more card which will be added to your current total.

If you hit once and you still want to hit again, you can. You can hit as often times as you want, so long as you do not go over 21. Should you go over 21, you’ll bust and lose the hand. If you hit and get 21 exactly, you’ll not have blackjack. Blackjack is only if you’ve an Ace and a card worth 10. If you are feeling lucky and you’ve a very good starting hand, but want just one more card, you’ve the option to double down. If you double down, you’ll have to double your bet and you’ll be given just one more card, that’ll be dealt face down. If you do that, you’ll not be capable to hit or get anymore cards.
